ANGLO-SAXON FARMING
CUTHBERT'S CALENDAR - PAUL LOVATT-SMITH
April's Friday night talk will be all about Saxon farming and will be lead by our very own chairman, Paul!
You might remember a series of articles that Paul wrote in the SFTG newsletter a while back, based on twelve pictures of farming and other activities, from an Anglo-Saxon calendar made in Canterbury sometime around the year 1,000 AD. The pictures are beautifully crafted and justly famous. He was interpreting them in the light of the traditional farming that goes on at his smallholding today. He is in the process of compiling these articles into a book, called "Cuthbert's Calendar".
This talk will be a sneak preview of the contents of the book!
*Note that the date is the fourth Friday in April (the 25th) and not the third as we would usually meet, owing to Easter falling on the 3rd Friday*
