SUMMARY:AN INTRODUCTION TO SMALLHOLDING - APRIL 2027
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps you're about to take over a smallholding? Or are you relatively new to keeping land and animals? If so\, perhaps you feel you'd like to talk the issues through with others in the same boat\, \nand with someone who's been doing it for a while? If that sounds like you\, then our "Introduction to Smallholding" workshop is just the thing for you. \nCome and spend the afternoon finding out what smallholding entails from a practical perspective\, as you visit this 7 acre plot. Paul Lovatt-Smith has been working on the land for over 15 years\, \nand has a wealth of knowledge that he's happy to share\, including: \n\nHow to get started - we know it's all a bit overwhelming at first\n\nWhat's involved with the paperwork and legal aspects\, as well as the finances\n\nA basic overview of keeping poultry\, sheep\, cattle and pigs\n\nGrowing fruit and vegetables\n\nMaking hay and growing small-scale cereals\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: \nThis course will be held outdoors (and partly in a barn) - so please do wear suitable outdoors clothing\, bearing in mind that this is England - \nit may well be cold and damp (or warm and sunny\, boiling and dry\, windy and snowing... you get the picture). \nCan't make this date? DESCRIPTION:An Afternoon at Rapkyns Nursery\n \nWalk\, Talk & Cake with Morag\nJoin us for a relaxed and informative afternoon at Rapkyns Nursery\, an independent\, family-run nursery nestled in the East Sussex countryside between Mayfield and Heathfield. \nFor more than 30 years\, Rapkyns has been growing plants in its beautiful rural setting and has built up an extensive collection of both traditional favourites and more unusual varieties. \nThe nursery offers a wonderful selection of shrubs\, climbers and perennials and is particularly well known for its impressive collection of Salvias. \nAt the heart of Rapkyns is the belief that\, with a little careful planning and the right choice of plants\, it is possible to create a beautiful and colourful garden with interest throughout the year. \nMeet Morag\nThe nursery is run by Morag\, a passionate plants woman with a wealth of horticultural knowledge and experience. \nDuring our visit\, Morag will take us on a guided walk around the nursery\, sharing her knowledge of the plants they grow\, offering advice on choosing the right plants for different garden conditions and explaining how best to grow and care for them. \nThere will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions\, pick up ideas for your own garden and discover some varieties you may not have come across before. \nAnd\, of course\, no good afternoon outing would be complete without cake! \nThe Afternoon Includes\nA guided walk around Rapkyns Nursery\, an informal talk with Morag\, plenty of opportunity to ask questions and cake to finish the afternoon. \nTime: 2.00pm–4.00pm \nWhether you're an experienced gardener\, developing a new garden or simply love plants and would like some inspiration\, this promises to be a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon in the company of a very knowledgeable plants woman. \n  \nThis event is free for our members and £3 for non-members and Morag would appreciate donations to the Motor Neurone Disease Charity
